Japan Series 1

Japan, 2019

"Daruma Cluster"
Takasaki, Japan, 2019

Type C Print, Non-Editioned, 10 x 12"

I have been obsessed with the concept, philosophy and aesthetic of the Daruma Doll - a Japanese tumbler figurine, which represents, amongst other things, resilience. I was lucky enough to get to visit Japan in 2019 and I knew I had to visit Takasaki - the home of the Daruma Doll and the incredible Daruma temple.
Photographed here is a tight crop of the many compiled and wish-fulfilled Daruma's of all shapes, sizes and colours and is sure to bring good luck, fortune and health to anyone who hangs this print in their home.

"Red Ferns At Ōkunoshima"
Ōkunoshima(Rabbit Island) Japan, 2019

Type C Print, Non-Editioned, 10 x 12"

This island, that you need to take a ferry from Tadamo-Umi in the Hiroshima prefecture, has a dark pat; being a poison gas storage facility during World War II. However, when trying to see if the island was safe to reinhabit, they introduced rabbits to see if they would survive. They did - and they populated like, well, rabbits! The island is covered in semi-friendly bunnies and is a huge tourist destination to feed and see the rabbits. However, I found the architecture and structure of the island, and its horrid past a lot more interesting.

"Ramen Kitchen Window, from the alleyway"
Shibuya, Tokyo Japan, 2019

Type C Print, Non-Editioned, 10 x 12"

I don't want to sound like that obnoxious New York VIP Tik Tokker, BUT "if you haven't had Ramen in Japan, then you haven't had ramen." I mean, it goes without saying, that the food absolutely blew my mind.
One night, walking around the entertainment district of Shibuya, we discovered some alleyways that reminded me so much of Melbourne and home. It was here a window illuminated the chefs from inside one of the many restaurants, going back and forth and busily preparing many meals. This shot both reminds me of Melbourne and home, but also this awesome Japanese adventure - but most of all, the yummy ramen!

"Shiba at the Familymart"
Kamakura Japan, 2019

Type C Print, Non-Editioned, 10 x 12"

After a busy day sightseeing in Kamakura, shopping, eating delicious treats, sightseeing at the mountain and the Giant Buddha and generally doing the touristy stuff, we were walking back to the train station just as the sun was going down. The common, yet amazing, Familymart (like a levelled up 711 which sells all kinds of incredible Japanese treats) appeared. It was facing the setting sun, illuminated and beckoned for us to buy another treat. But tied up out front, alert and so appropriate was a beautiful Japanese Shiba Inu. You couldn't get a more contemporary Japanese tableau!
I love street photography and I happily captured the urban scene.

Europe Series 1

Italy & croatia, 2019

"Boccadasse Beach"
Genoa, Italy, 2019

Type C Print, Non-Editioned, 10 x 12"

This little hidden beach near Genoa is just a short bus ride away and it was so stunning. Obviously, we explored the alleyways and streets filled with gelaterias and pizzerias before dipping into the water.
I remember standing up on the rocks to take this photo and thinking that this is the happiest I have ever been.
Later when I was reviewing my shots from the day I do recall a mate telling me "wow - that photo could be a postcard!" which, for him, was the height of praise.

"Hidden Beach at Rijeka"
Rijeka, Croatia, 2019

Type C Print, Non-Editioned, 10 x 12"

Ok, this beach is a literal oasis. We had been driving for hours, crossing the border from Slovenia and travelling down to Rijeka from Zigrab. We were tired, needed to stretch our legs, and possibly hungover.
When this hidden beach (with tide-side beer bar) appeared over the cliff of one of the Rijekan streets, it felt too good to be true.
I still remember the awe of looking down upon the magical crystal blue waters and hearing the laughter of the people below and just feeling the happiest I have ever felt. This shot is imbued with that positivity.

"Cherry Blossom with Honeybee"
2021

Type C Print, Non-Editioned, 10 x 12"

Photographed on Google Pixel 5.
On a recent walk around my new neighbourhood during Melbourne lockdown, I managed to find some bliss in the newly blossoming flowers and to my joy captured this adorable little honeybee gathering cherry blossom pollon.
It reminded me of my time in Japan in 2019 and also how important our planet is.

Type C Print, Non-Editioned, 10 x 12"

Photographed on Google Pixel 5.
I absolutely love Australian native flora and fauna. The botanicals in this country are truly beautful and stunning. This golden wattle shot would be perfect in a triptych with the cherry blossoms and white pom poms, but also could bring the joy of the Spring outdoors to a bedroom or office / study.

"Neon Monstera 1"
2018

Type C Print, Non-Editioned, 10 x 12"

Photographed on Google Pixel 1.
I'm a huge fan of plants and indoor plants, especially the tropical ones like the monstera deliciosa. I photographed this stunning leaf one evening when I was reclining on the couch, possibly hungover, and saw how beautiful my rainbow halogen living room lights made the leaf stand out, and change from deep green to a violet-blue, against the white walls, which were now illuminated pink and purple. This shot would be perfect to bring some tropical, yet electric vibes to an office or area that needs some energy and edge.
